Safe driving habits for parents

On Behalf of | Jul 2, 2022 | Driving Safety

Children rely on their parents for safety and responsibility. If you neglect their needs or act as a bad example, you endanger them.

According to Statista, over 6 million car accidents happen each year. There is a significant chance that you will be in a motor vehicle accident at some point. Do not increase your chances and put your child in danger.

Buckle up

Your kids are more susceptible to injuries from crashes. Everyone should wear a seatbelt but take the time to ensure your children wear theirs. Not only should you check if they buckle up when you drive but teach them the importance of using a seatbelt for when you are not with them. Your kids might argue with you or complain that other parents let their kids avoid wearing seatbelts. Calmly explain to them why it is so essential for their safety.

Put them in the back

Until your children reach the age of 12, you should have them sit in the back seat. It is safer for them if you get into a front-impact accident. Also, the airbags in your car pose a significant danger for undeveloped children.

Set a good example

Finally, your example might be the best way to protect your children. Drive the speed limit, follow traffic laws and drive defensively. Good driving habits protect your kids while they are your passengers and set an example for when they drive on their own.

You are responsible for the safety of your children on the road. Teach them well, and practice safe driving habits to ensure they avoid injury now and in the future.
